Policies & Code of Conduct

ADMISSION

  1. All applicants and their parents will be interviewed by Administration before being accepted into HCS.
  2. Students requiring excessive discipline may not be suited for this school.
  3. Kindergarteners must be five years of age prior to the first day of school. Age is not the only qualifier. Sufficient maturity and school readiness will be judged by Administration and teachers with an on­trial admission.
  4. It is required that families of students be faithful attenders of a Bible-believing church.

ATTENDENCE

  1. On-time delivery and pickup of students is the responsibility of parents: 7:45-7:50 a.m. drop off and 2:00 p.m. pick up.
  2. Faithful attendance is extremely important to staff and should be important to parents.
  3. Parents are to call the school office (816 324 2000) Or text Pastor (816 248 2610) by 7:45 a.m. when their child will be absent that day.
  4. Attendance records are a vital part of the permanent transcript.

SUPPLIES

  1. The Elementary students do the majority of their work in the A/O notebooks. Lead pencils and a supply of erasers are essentials. A spiral notebook may be useful. Higher grades use Abeka texts and a notebook may be useful for them also – plus pencils and erasers.
  2. A King James Bible is a must have.

DRESS CODE

  1. Clean, modest clothing is expected. Revealing clothing, i.e., tank tops, spaghetti-strap dresses, short shorts, and/or skirts, and jeans with large holes are not appreciated. We are a Christian School and hold high standards.
  2. Flip-flop shoes are distracting and could cause a fall when a student is running. Students are asked not to wear them.

FOOD

  1. Lunches may be stored in the refrigerator, and warmed in the microwaves.
  2. Snacks are not allowed during class time.

SAFETY

  1. All exterior doors will remain locked. The ex­ception to the rule would be when teachers
    and students are outside for recess or gym.
  2. Threat of Intruder: (3 short blasts) Should an unknown person(s) of suspicious looks or actions be sited on the property, 911 will be called. Should a weapon be displayed, or a break-in attempt be made, the interior classroom doors will be locked with student and teachers inside. Students will calm and console the students (quietly) and instruct them to make no sound until the ‘all clear’ Is given.
  3. Severe Weather: (2 blasts) When a tornado warning has been issued for our area, administration will determine if action is required based on specific information collected. When action is required, teachers will lead all students into the hall, where all will crouch low against the north wall. Teachers will calm and console frightened students (encouraging prayer) until the storm has passed. In the event of lightning and/or thunder, students will be brought inside.
  4. Smoke or Fire: 1 long blast The alarm will be sounded. Teachers will instruct students to exit the building through the closest exit. Everyone will gather in the northeast corner of the parking lot. Administrators will be the last to leave – after restrooms have been checked and everyone is safely outside.
    Fire drills will require the same actions and be spontaneous.

BULLYING

  1. To bully is to intimidate, threaten, hit, attempt to force or coerce another.
  2. HCS has a NO TOLERANCE policy concerning bullying.
  3. A person who practices good manners and respect for others will not be a bully.
  4. Intentionally excluding another student from friendship, (or interaction) may be considered bullying, and warrant correction. Hitting or pushing (even lightly) is not tolerated. Taunting, or withholding another’s property is intimidation. Disrespect or talking back to teachers is bullying. All teachers will report bullying of any kind, from students of any age.

DISCIPLINE

  1. Corporal punishment is not practiced at HCS.
  2. Infractions, i.e., refusing to do school work; disobedience, deliberately causing a distraction in class; often late to class, etc. will warrant a discussion with Administration which may result in disciplinary action and/or a call to parents. Students attitude during the incident and the dis­cussion with Administration will be a factor.

PARENTAL PARTICIPATION

  1. We encourage parents to be involved in the education of their children through conversations with the child and the teacher. Response to written communication; and being familiar with the HCS Handbook is appreciated.
  2. Parents will periodically be asked to attend Parent/Teacher Conferences, and ‘whole-school’ meetings.
  3. Since we sometimes read scripture in unison in our opening and chapel services, we require parents to provide a King James Version Bible (not NKJ).
  4. On-time drop off (7:45/7:50) and pick up (2:00) is most important.
  5. Both parents should attend; however, in extenuating circumstances, we will welcome one parent.

MEDICATIONS

  1. When students must take medications during school hours, that medication, along with a note of instructions from a parent, must be left in the principal’s office. It is the responsibility of the student to ask for the medication (except for the very young).

NO SCHOOL

  1. Parents will receive a list of scheduled ‘no school’ days – holidays.
  2. Weather related closings are determined by the rulings of the St. Joseph and Savannah School Districts. Because of the vast span of miles that students now drive to HCS, we have added Savannah. This information is available on KQ2tv, kq2.com, and possibly other media news. Actually, it is your decision whether it is safe to drive from your location.

TUITION AND FEES

  1. HCS is a ministry made possible by faithful volunteers who have a desire to see your children become educated, well-rounded Christians. Our tuition is by comparison the lowest in the area. We operate on a tight budget, therefore we appre­ciate your prompt payment the 1st of each month.
  2. As funds allow, we order curriculum for all students prior to our September start date. You are asked to pay for it (or part of it) on your first statement. Yes, it is very expensive – but these students are worth it.
  3. Occasionally, a book may be ordered midterm. Field trips sometimes require a fee.

THINGS FROM HOME

  1. Cell phones must be left in the principal’s office. Toys brought from home (by the younger ones) are often a nuisance to teachers. We have a lot of small toys for play on days that students can’t go outside.

OFF-GROUNDS ACTIVITIES

  1. Field trips may be planned. These will require parental permission.
  2. Students are representatives of HCS, therefore, drug/alcohol/smoking is prohibited on and off campus.

BIBLE/BIBLE PRINCIPLES

  1. HCS was started rn 2014 to offer parents an alternative to ‘common core’ and untruths that are being taught in government run schools. We use Bible-based curricula and teach scripture, good morals, manners and godly living.
  2. We schedule two chapels daily – one for Elementary and one for Junior High and High school. In these chapel classes, there is music and scripture. Students are graded on participation and attitude.
  3. The King James Bible is the text for these classes.

LIBRARY /COMPUTERS

  1. Our library room Is small, but contains many books. These are available for check-out.
  2. We provide lap-top computers for classroom use.
